Thursday- I went to the elementary school. The students were working on a math sheet. They each got to do a problem on the board. I feel like as long as the student truly tried, they should get back a good response. If the student didn't get it right, she let them try to fix it. That helps the student learn how to do it, and helps them learn how to check their work.
Friday- Kate and I are now working together at the middle school. We made copies for two teachers, and then helped Mrs. Lindsey. It was another teacher's birthday, so we helped Mrs. Lindsey blow up balloons and make birthday cards with glitter. I thought it was really nice that one teacher will go out of their way to do things for another teacher becuase it's her birthday. That shows how caring these teachers truly are.

Both Schools
Thursday, West Hancock: The students were doing an activity that involved listening skills and following directions. They did the worksheet, then went over it on the board. Ms. Bourn chose students to complete one part of it, and if the student messed up on the board, the other students said what was wrong and how to correct it. This is a great way to help kids learn how to follow directions, and also how to correct someone else without being rude.
Friday, Hancock Middle: When we arrived, the teacher had nothing for me to do. So, Natalie and I walked around, from teacher to teacher, asking if they needed anything. One teacher had us grade papers. When we finished, a student passed the graded papers out. I feel like a teacher should pass out anything with a grade on it. It is not any other student's business what someone else got on a quiz.
From going to both schools, I realize I would much rather teach elementary aged children. However, I learn something new from each school during each visit.

Another day at WHE and a first day HMS
Thursday, we went to West Hancock, as always, but this time I got to do something new. Ms. Bourne told me that a student had missed two Fridays, and never made up the spelling tests. She asked me to call the words out to him and let him write them down. Some of the words, like hear, could be spelled different ways. As a teacher, I would try not to choose spelling words that could be spelled more than one way. I also think waiting to long to let a child make up a test could affect the grade. I would make sure to give them a heads up so they have time to study.
Every Friday, we will be going to the middle school to help out. It is a lot different than being at the elementary schools. Because it was the first time we went, the teacher I was going to help, Ms. Gibbons, wasn't prepared. I went into her room and watched the way she did things. However, because her next block has another teacher in there, she let me go to other teachers to see if they needed any help or had anything that I could do. The experience was very different than the first time I went to the elementary school, and I prefer going to the elementary school.
